Blackhawk films from Iowa USA were one of the largest distributors of 8mm vintage/classic films and have their own following of collectors.
Their films were distributed in high quality coloured boxes shich as the one shown below and were distimctive for their print quality and for adding a brief synopsis or history of each film on a few screens before the movie started.
A large proportion of their output was a back catalogue of classic black and white silent films from the early 1900's including many Biograph releases. These included early movies from the cult director D W Griffith who was probably most famous for his controversial Birth of a Nation film which was subsequently banned in the USA.
Blackhawk also distributed a large number of documentaries about life and events in the USA in the 1920's and these are a snapshot of social history around the time of the Great Depression
